Coinciding with the Roman Baths’ event, ‘Found in Combe Down’ at The Church Rooms for the Festival of Archaeology, the Museum of Bath Stone will be open for free on Saturday 19th July from 11am to 3pm. This is a chance to visit the museum outside its normal limited opening times.
You will be able to see the part of the fossil collection of geologist Charles Moore loaned to us by the Bath Royal Literary and Scientific Institution, and our new geology maps will be put on display.
The museum is also in the early stages of its research project into the lives of the wives of the men who worked in Combe Down’s underground stone quarry industry. If you have any stories you wish to share about your family history research relating to this, we’d love to hear from you, so feel free to drop by the museum on the 19th or email us at info@museumofbathstone.org
The Festival of Archaeology happens across the country, 19th July to 3rd August. You can find the directory of events here: https://www.archaeologyuk.org/festival/festival-event-listing.html
